Counting the days...
Recently I've been participating in an online art challenge that goes by the hashtag #28FebruaryFlowers. It prompts participating artists to make a floral themed painting everyday and post it to their social media. It's been a rewarding effort resulting in many benefits, including the one most revealing to me, and that is how important structure is to my productivity as an artist.
Only a few days into my new art stride and I already started wondering what other challenges that I could participate in to keep the art mojo going once Day 28's "garden" prompt is completed. So I searched about and stumbled upon this, #the100daysproject.
100 Days. That's a lot of days. 14 weeks and 2 days to be exact. I'm not entirely sure that I'm not entirely going to peter out by say, day 28, or 45, or 89 with only 11 days to the finish line. It's not like anyone is counting on me to get 'er done.
The flowers challenge is primarily realized through my participation in the Insiders Studio, a wonderful, supportive and encouraging group of mostly ladies who love painting mostly flowers. February, the short cold month, is well-suited for the snappy 28 day challenge. The100 Days Project challenge, on the other hand, will take me well into May, past the spring holidays and into entirely different wardrobe. And frankly I'm not sure I'll have the stamina, community support and accountability through what is not much more than a hashtag and a group of diverse anonymous artists. (Each participant designs their own project for the challenge, so we are not all united in painting Daylilies on day 64, for example.)
But what the heck... I'll give it a go! The worst thing that can happen is failure, which is what the best art is made of anyway, am I right? This here, is the first of what probably will be two to three dozen blog posts tracking my progress along the 100 days. Posting every day is too boring, and time consuming, but I'll try my best to stay on track with at least a couple of posts/week. Wish me luck!
